Daniel Craig the real James Bond in Casino Royale 2007
MGM president Harry Sloan has confirmed that they're bringing back Daniel Craig for four more James Bond films, making him the star in at least five total.
We already know Daniel Craig will be returning as James Bond in the 22nd film that's currently shooting and due out next November, but that's not his last one. How does he shape up to the other Bond actors over the years? So far I'm quite impressed with Craig as Bond, but he still doesn't beat Roger Moore or even Sean Connery. He has a very new and different style that's much more rugged and much more muscular. Here are all the other films each Bond actors has done.
- Sean Connery – 6 Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever
- George Lazenby - 1 On Her Majesty's Secret Service
- Roger Moore - 7 Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View to a Kill
- Timothy Dalton – 2 The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill
- Pierce Brosnan – 4 GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day
- Daniel Craig - 5+ Casino Royale, Bond 22 – 25
This definitely looks positive and I'm glad to see the Bond franchise continue to grow with Craig in the lead. I know he'll bring us some great Bonds films, especially considering Casino Royale was one of the most successful Bond films ever. Craig is really building quite a career for himself starring in a number of other non-Bond movies as well, including the upcoming Golden Compass. This is quite impressive considering Roger Moore couldn't carry another major film role while he was doing his Bond's and never went on to anything else afterward. Craig also has likely starring roles in upcoming Fame, Death Wish and Thomas Crown Affair franchise films.Inside Casino Royale
I was incredibly hesitant about viewing "Casino Royale" because of the changing of the Bonds. I didn't know that it was going to be about "the beginning" of Bond as a 00. (Reason #1 why Craig fits like a glove. An older Bond can't pull off the "beginning")
When we saw photos of him it didn't do him justice. We didn't know the script was going to be about a rugged, new, fresh out of the military kind of Bond. When I began watching the movie I was blown away. From the opening "foot chase" stunt I knew that I had seen something very special. I liked too the location and it more realistically matched a Bond in the field. I always pictured Bond as a military field operative. I always wondered, how did he come about. This movie clearly answered that question. So, immediately I knew that he definitely could pull off the butt kicking side of Bond that we all kind of craved. He's a Bond for my generation.
Then I began to wonder about whether we had traded in the suave Bond for an action hero. Again, I was disturbed, but still was very much enjoying the show. Then, I saw Craig do the charming, suave, babe magnet thing that is so prevalent in all or most Bond films. I was like, dear God, he can really act! So when the Bond girl and he are on the train, in the back of the car, and all that... it was really a magical thing. The chemistry was there and I dare to say that they were, to some degree, genuinely attracted to one another. Needless to say it really went off well. So now, I know that Craig is both the suave Bond we always have wanted and he can kick butt!
The love scenes were not overdone as in some of the previous bond stories. This is a new, fresh, Bond fresh off the block and the script was tailor made for Craig. I can't imagine anyone else pulling off this script. This was the only book that hadn't been made into a serious movie.
The future James Bond hero
I couldn't imagine another Bond. I always thought Connery had the market cornered on Bond. I really didn't like any of the other Bonds as much. I did like Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan. Yet, I knew that with Connery I would get the kind of 60's - 70's classic Bond that I grew up with as a kid. When Roger Moore came along... I didn't think it was going off as well, but it was adequate. Never liked the other guys. When Pierce hit the scene we were like, well here comes Remington Steele and thank God. I had always thought of him as Bond, probably because I have seen so much Remington Steele and I wanted him as Bond. So, when they decided to can Brosnan we were not ready to write him off. We just weren't. Yet, I must admit, I wondered how they were going to bring Bond into the new millennium to compete with people like Jason Bourne. (Bourne Identity Series) Still, to this day, my favorite fight scene is when Jason Bourne is stabbing dude who crashes through the window with the ink pen. Loved it! So see, we needed someone to bring Bond into this era of movies. That entailed competing with such fight scenes. Pierce couldn't do the fight scenes. Not like Craig. I'm sorry. I dare to say that the Bond movie series would have died without Craig. For the record, I was the staunchest of opponents to replacing Pierce, but now, I see Craig as the savior of the franchise, a Bond for my generation, and now... YES, MY FAVOURITE BOND. I resisted watching the movie for almost a year, whatever, but finally gave it a chance. God, did I miss out! What if I had died and never seen a good version of Casino Royale? Yes, I can die now.
